How To Stay Excited When Everything Is falling Apart

Updated: Oct 12, 2019

Earlier this week, you jumped in for an adventure with me.

You might’ve said: Hey Kerry, show me how I can stay excited about my life!

Please show me…

  • How to stay motivated when I go through the same. Routine. Every. Single. Day. (family routine, work-life, dinner duties, clean up, sleep & repeat)

  • How to rebound quickly when my plans go awol (kids sleep in and I’m late for work, can’t find my keys, car breaks down)

  • How to get out of a rut when I’m feeling drained, uninspired, and ready to just ‘settle and accept’ that this is the way it’s going to be.

Well, this post is for you :)

Because here’s what I can say to that…

It’s never about what’s going on in your day that holds you down. It’s all about what’s going on in your head.

And today I’ve got two tips for you - one mindset, one actionable- to help you GET excited and STAY excited about your precious life ahead.

  1. Dig Up Your Grateful Grains. Your happiness needs to be watered, and that starts with being grateful for what you currently have. Yes, maybe your car broke down - but where can you still find something in the situation to be thankful for? How about the fact that you even own a car, that it’s not 30 below outside, and that your friend is coming to pick you up… Stay grateful for what you do have when things seem to fall apart. Staying solution-based, not problem-focused, is a gamechanger in these situations. When you avoid always thinking negatively, you also allow yourself to get out of the next funk so much faster. So, what can you find gratitude from when things seem to crash around you? Staying grateful keeps you HAPPY!

  2. Connect(tion) The Dots. Taking time out of your day to connect with friends will wildly increase your life excitement. Set yourself up with plans to connect - meet a friend at a new bakery, walk along the river to the dog park (even if you don’t have a dog!), catch a baseball game. DO SOMETHING FUN to get yourself out of a rut. It’s okay to treat yourself here, the key is to make a conscious effort to plan in connection and f-u-n into your schedule. Mix it up by sometimes deciding on a last-minute-outing, and other times planning these special days months in advance. Connecting with others and investing your time into an outing together will have you feeling like a whole new person.

That’s it, love, you’ve got the two simple tools you need in order to have a ripple effect on your happiness level.

They are two ingredients that I’m always popping into my happiness recipe, too. And if we’re talking about EXCITEMENT - I just spoke to 1000 people about mindset, what it takes to reach your goals, and trusting the process. A lot of my gratefulness and connection comes from the opportunity to share this information and my experiences with YOU!

Take these two tips and implement them the next time you’re in need of a pick-me-up. It’s small actions like these that make the biggest impact.
